3. An Essay on: Peace

Peace
Once upon a time there was a king named Vikram Pratap Singh. He was kind hearted and caring his kingdom’s people. He wanted the kingdom’s people to be happy. He asked many saints and astrologers how to keep his people of the kingdom happy. One of the saints named Haritmuni advised that if he wanted to get answer of his question he should do meditation.
The king went to Himalayas for meditation. After many years, a saint wearing white clothes appeared while he was meditating. The saint said in a low voice, ‘Vikram’. The king opened his eyes. He asked his question to the saint. The saint replied, ‘For getting your question’s answer you must like reading books’. He went back to his kingdom and started reading books. After reading many books, he read a saying that ‘Peace is the Reason for Happiness’. He understood that only peace can only bring happiness in his kingdom.

Now, for making his kingdom feel happy, he must know, “What is peace?” .He held a meeting in his palace with his courtiers, for understanding the meaning of peace. His courtiers gave different opinion about peace. But the king was not satisfied with any of the answers.
After some days, he decided to go to a jungle to meet a hermit for getting his doubt clarified. He left his horse and guards back, and went alone in the jungle to meet the hermit. When he reached the hermit, the hermit was ploughing a field. After some time king asked his question to hermit. But the hermit continued his work and did not reply.
After sometime when hermit completed his work the king again asked in a pleased way ‘What does the term peace really mean?’ For explaining the king about peace the hermit made two paintings of peace and asked the king to choose one of them, which indicates peace.
One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror for peaceful towering mountains all around it. Overhead was a blue sky full of white clouds in it. The other picture had mountains too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky, from which rain fell and in which lightening played. Downside of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall.
The king said “The first picture is peaceful but the second is not at all peaceful. But the hermit said “The second picture indicates the peace”. “Why” the king said. “Look properly!” the hermit said. The king looked closely, he saw behind the waterfall, a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest in perfect peace.
The hermit explained why he selected second picture “Because peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace.”
The king understood the meaning of peace. He went back to his kingdom and explained to its people of kingdom that if you have peace you can get happiness all around you. After that people of the kingdom lived in harmony and with happiness; and the king also become happy after seeing his people of kingdom happy.
In the real sense, the saint Haritmuni and the hermit were the same person and they were the forms of God. God was impressed by the king’s devotion and came in different forms to the king.

2. An Essay on: Peace

Peace
I would begin this essay with very famous words said by Mother Teresa. Once she said, “Peace begins with a smile. Smile five times a day at someone you really don’t want to smile at; do it for peace”. It is true that love and compassion comes rushing to one person once he smiles. One can reduce the level of hatred he has towards the other person by smiling. Once you smile at a person, it results in the other person smiling back at you.
Everyone likes to live in a world of peace. I think this is important because it is very nice and can keep you away from drama. My parents have taught me many things about being peaceful, especially at school. They taught me to be respectful at all times and to walk away from drama and to never get involved in it. This is very important because getting into drama will make us a witness or the one who may be blamed when there is a problem.
Peace is also important because being rude or harmful for no reason at all is not being peaceful. This happens at school a lot mostly outside, but my friends and I just walk away. My mom tells me this is the right thing to do. She tells me that to be peaceful it is important for everyone to get along within the community and at school. She also told me to never join a fight between other people, she tells me when this happens go tell a teacher. This can help stop the violence in our school. All the people I know in my family tell me to never hang out with the wrong group of people because they may be the ones to get me in trouble.
My parents have also taught me to make friends from other cultures because they may look different from the outside, but inside they might be really nice and kind.  If we respect each other’s cultures, we can all live in peace and harmony.
This year, I have more friends who are from different cultures.  I enjoy playing with them and learning about their cultures. It helps me understand their opinion; experience, and culture.  Now, I have noticed that I am much more accepting of other people and also more open-minded to their point of view.
Whenever I have a problem with one of my classmates, I control my tone of voice and I explain it to them in   nonviolent way.  If they are still rude, I speak to them in a strong and polite way.
“I am sorry.” “I love you.” “I forgive you.” In my eyes, peace is not just a word that can describe something or someone. They are the statements said above. Peace is the little things people do every day. There may be many different definitions of peace, but the most important one to me is the one my mother has taught me. My mother has always said that God tells us to forgive each other, give to others, and love each other. I think that if every single person on this planet lived by these three simple rules, and said those three simple statements   every day, the world might be ready to move onto the bigger acts of kindness such as stopping wars or lowering crime rates.
I think people should remember lessons that we have learned from previous wars, wise leaders and from our own experiences.  These lessons have taught us to be more respectful to each other and to discuss problems instead of fighting about it.  If people follow these rules, the word would be a very peaceful place.
The Earth is a beautiful planet and the people on the face of the earth are beautiful as well. My mother has made a big difference in my life when she taught me the word of God. God wants us to follow those three simple rules, forgive each other, give to others, and love each other. We cannot wait for someone like Mother Teresa or Mahatma Gandhi to jump-start the spreading of peace. People like us can do that in the little words and statements we say every day. My mother has really given me the biggest influence in my life to making peace. She has taught me to always follow what God wants you to do. We may already have our future in our minds, but we cannot attain that future until we can learn to forgive, give, and love everyone. Only when our hearts are open for giving forgiveness and love can God tell us what we are meant to do on this planet. Only then are we ready to really bring peace to the world.

1. An Essay on: Peace

What is in your Toolbox for Peace?
Religion is the tool for peace. All Indian religions teach people the lesson of peace and non-violence. I am going to narrate a story on this. This is a very old story, more than five hundred years old. A king ruled over Dholakpur. His name was Narendra. And his commander in chief’s name was Anand. Dholakpur’s people were good and kind. They lived together in harmony. But the king was very proud.
One day he gave an order to the commander in chief, Anand. But he did not obey the order. Because he had a dispute with the king on some matter. Anand clearly said to the king, “I shall not obey your order.” The king got angry and said, “How dare you disobey me?” Both of them were angry and were ready to have a fight. The king roared, “I will kill you.” And then he took out his sword to attack. Anand only laughed proudly, “Ha! Ha! Ha!” He was proud of his strength and was not afraid of the king. He said to the king, “Before long, you shall be killed by me.” The kings struck his sword on Anand, but he stretched forward his shield and saved himself. Then he brandished his sword to hurt the king, but he dodged it. Both of them roared and tried hard to kill each other. Both of them were expert in sword fighting and so the fight went on for a long time. Then both of them were injured and their body started bleeding from several places.
Now, from that lonely place, a monk was passing by. He was very learned, kind and compassionate. He saw the fight and felt pity for king and the commander in chief. He cried out, “Stop! O king!” Hearing a stranger’s sound, both the warriors stopped for a while and looked around. They saw the monk and suddenly they felt ashamed of their deed. They lowered their swords and bowed to the monk. The monk said to them that if the king and the commander fight among themselves, who was going to protect the country from enemies. Moreover, both of them were well educated and had honour for religion. He asked them how was it that they forgot to behave well. The monk preached them the importance of peace and non-violence.
Both of them reconciled with each other and vowed never to involve in petty fights, to be disciplined and work honestly for the welfare of their country.
